SELECTS ADAPTEC ULTRA160 SCSI TECHNOLOGY FOR teamserver/GRANPOWER5000
PC SERVERS
Global
Japanese Electronics Giant to Incorporate the Latest Solution in
High-Performance System Connectivity
MILPITAS,
Calif. -- February 8, 2000 -- Adaptec Inc. today announced that
Fujitsu Ltd. has selected the company's Ultra160 SCSI technology
for storage connectivity within Fujitsu's teamserver/GRANPOWER5000
PC server product line. Adaptec's board-level and silicon Ultra160
SCSI solutions will be incorporated within new teamserver/GRANPOWER5000
systems set to ship in March 2000.
"Signing
customers like Fujitsu provides further validation that Ultra160
is rapidly gaining a foothold in the computing marketplace, and
Adaptec is the technology enabler for this trend," said Lee Caswell,
director of OEM server, workstation and software at Adaptec.
Targeted
at the mainstream server market, the Adaptec SCSI Card 29160 provides
the highest performance on a single channel 64-bit PCI card with
both internal and external connections to Ultra160 SCSI hard disk
drives. The card also provides an internal connection to all legacy
devices through legacy wide and narrow connectors. This SCSI card
offers the greatest configuration versatility by enabling Ultra160
SCSI and legacy SCSI device connectivity, both internally and externally,
in any combination. The adapter supports all major PC server operating
systems, including Linux.
Adaptec's
dual-processor Ultra160 SCSI controller is the industry's first
such device and has been accepted by several major server manufacturers
as the industry's foundation for this rapidly adopted storage connectivity
standard.
"We
have been cooperating with the vendors worldwide and making our
best effort to offer the highest performance and reliability to
our customers," said Masahiro Kawakatsu, General Manager, 2nd Computer
Systems Division, Fujitsu Ltd. "By installing Adaptec's Ultra160
SCSI products within our new GRANPOWER servers, we are able to provide
our customers the fastest I/O environment available today."
Fujitsu's
teamserver/GRANPOWER5000 servers have been redesigned to use Ultra160
from day one. Fujitsu servers come with a range of power features
including the latest Intel processors, fastest processor-to-memory
and dual memory bus interfaces, plus new Fujitsu 160MB/sec hard
disk drives. These all complement the doubling of I/O bandwidth,
greater connectivity and flexibility now being delivered by use
of Ultra160 bus technology. Fujitsu servers also provide the highest
levels of Reliability, Availability and Serviceability (RAS) as
part of their Perpetual Computing strategy. In total, Fujitsu delivers
a balance of high-end power, throughput, and resilience for customers
looking for well-priced platforms for the development of resource-intensive
Internet and business applications.
