LSI
LOGIC TEAMS WITH VERITAS SOFTWARE TO DELIVER INDUSTRY LEADING ULTRA160
RAID PERFORMANCE
Symbios®
Nextreme™ RAID is an easy to install, mirrored, bootable RAID solution
that reduces total cost of ownership and increases I/O performance
in workstations and dedicated task servers
Milpitas,
Calif., Dec. 15, 1999 - LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI), a leader
in high-performance I/O solutions, today announced it has teamed
with VERITAS Software Corporation (NASDAQ: VRTS), the industry's
leading enterprise-class application storage management software
provider, to offer a high performing RAID solution. Designed for
workstations and specialized servers, Symbios® Nextreme™ RAID is
based on the enterprise-class disk management software, VERITAS
Volume Manager™, which leverages the Logical Disk Manager of VERITAS
Volume Manager to create an easy-to-use, richly featured total storage
solution.
First
demonstrated at Fall Comdex, Nextreme RAID creates a total motherboard
or host adapter RAID solution without requiring additional hardware
plug-in options. The solution improves total system performance,
accelerates applications, lowers total cost of ownership and offers
hassle-free installation and configuration.
"VERITAS
is a formidable industry leader and LSI Logic is excited about our
newly created partnership," said Bill Wuertz, vice president and
general manager, LSI Logic Storage Components Division. "VERITAS
Software's de facto storage management interface, combined with
LSI Logic's innovative software and component solutions, creates
a compelling RAID offering for Ultra160 SCSI."
"By
working together with LSI Logic, we are at the forefront of delivering
a cost-effective bootable RAID solution that meets increased performance
and data protection needs," said Steve Colman, vice president of
worldwide OEM operations, VERITAS Software. "This product is innovative
because it provides workstation users with RAID functionality in
an area in which RAID storage systems were considered cost prohibitive."
The
Nextreme RAID product is comprised of the SYM53C1010 Ultra160 SCSI
controller along with RAID enabled BIOS and VERITAS Volume Manager.
This powerful combination has demonstrated workstation I/O performance
improvements in excess of 40 percent in single drive implementations,
(Winbench99 high-end, improvement measured over standard SCSI single
disk configuration). Additional performance increases can be realized
by striping data across multiple drives while ensuring high data
availability.
Nextreme
RAID will be available first quarter of 2000.
