MYLEX SELECTS QLOGIC FIBRE CHANNEL ISP2200 AND ULTRA160 SCSI ISP12160 FOR NEXT-GENERATION RAID PRODUCTS

ISP2200 and ISP12160 enable high-performance RAID for SANs

COSTA MESA, Calif., June 28, 1999 -QLogic Corp. (NASDAQ:QLGC), an industry leading designer of advanced, high-performance I/O controllers for direct connect and storage network interfaces, announced today that the QLogic Fibre Channel ISP2200 and Ultra160 SCSI ISP12160 interface controllers have been designed into Mylex's next-generation external and PCI RAID Products.

Mylex Corp. (NASDAQ:MYLX), the world's leading RAID controller vendor in the non-captive network systems marketplace, recently announced its roadmap for supporting the next-generation Ultra160 SCSI interface featuring enhanced performance, system interoperability and reliability. During the second half of 1999 and into 2000, Mylex plans to announce several enhancements to its DAC-series of external RAID and eXtremeRAIDÔ PCI RAID controllers to support Fibre Channel switched-network and Ultra160 SCSI storage. Mylex is the only vendor shipping a complete line of internal PCI RAID controllers for workstations and servers, and external Fibre Channel RAID controllers designed for storage area network (SAN) environments. Mylex has been shipping Fibre Channel RAID controllers based on the QLogic Fibre Channel ISP2100 for over a year and is defining the industry frontier with its new DACFF end-to-end fibre external RAID controller.

The QLogic ISP2200 Fibre Channel and ISP12160 Ultra160 SCSI chips are an integral part of Mylex's next-generation RAID architecture. The ISP2200 Fibre Channel chip provides leading-edge SAN Smart features such as an enhanced embedded RISC processor for the highest I/O efficiency, full-fabric support for switched networks, full duplex communication and support for simultaneous SCSI and IP protocols. The ISP12160 provides the latest in Ultra160 SCSI technology, with transfer rates up to 160 Mbytes/sec, cyclic redundancy-check (CRC) and domain validation. Both chips feature a 64-bit PCI bus interface and compatible firmware for easy integration and support.

"We value our OEM partnership with QLogic," stated Eric Herzog, vice president of marketing for Mylex. "Mylex is committed to the continuous development of innovative RAID products for our system and storage OEM customers. We can count on QLogic to provide leading-edge Fibre Channel technology for our high-performance RAID products deployed in demanding storage area network environments and a migration path from Ultra2 to Ultra160 SCSI products."

"QLogic is pleased that Mylex selected QLogic to deliver the critical components necessary to develop their next generation of RAID controllers," stated Larry Fortmuller, vice president and general manager of QLogic's Computer Systems Group. "Mylex's proven track record of bringing to market high-performance RAID controllers powered by QLogic's advanced ISP architecture will significantly expand the overall market for Ultra160 SCSI-based storage subsystems and Fibre Channel-enabled storage networks."

Based on QLogic's award-winning ISP architecture, the ISP2200 and ISP12160 apply advances in I/O technology to a solid, industry-proven design. As with all QLogic solutions, a great deal of care goes into ensuring effortless migration to new technology. The ISP2200 and ISP12160 are pin compatible and host software compatible with its predecessors, the ISP2100 and ISP1280. In addition, the ISP2200 and ISP12160 are designed to provide the most efficient I/O operation of any Fibre Channel and SCSI controllers available in the industry today, allowing systems OEMs to apply more processing power towards achieving superior application performance.

QLogic offers the widest array of Fibre Channel and SCSI interface products in the marketplace today. QLogic I/O controllers can be found in products from industry leading manufacturers of hard disk drives, tape drives, RAID controllers, tape libraries to UNIX and NT systems and workstations.
